Despite her interest in photojournalism since 1998 when she studied Mass Communication at Kuwait University and working in the same field for several years before traveling to study in England in 2005, Her real passion about documentary photography came after the death of her mother away from her, back in 2007. She left her a heavy legacy of family photos that she captured herself. From that moment, Athoob felt strongly the importance to specialize in this area of practice. Then, she received her Master’s degree in visual communication, documentary photography in 2010 from Birmingham City University. She returned to Kuwait in 2011 and worked as a freelance photographer for City magazine, Jazeera Airways magazine and the Financial Times. Also, she was showcased in Select Book/Photography Issue. Later in 2013, she accompanied Layan Relief campaign for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Currently, Athoob is working as a reporter for the Kuwait Times newspaper.
